About the event
Tsagaan Sar marks the start of the lunar near year marked by the white moon. Each year we walk the steppes is a blessing from our Dusk Mother, Nhaama. Come join as family and friends, with guests welcome to our celebrations and embrace our traditions.
We ask that your respect our ways and to wear white. We will be hosting at the Wayfarers' Ger. We are aware of other Tsagaan Sar celebrations and these are complementary to them.
We will open with greetings and "zolgokh".
We will offer the following:
- Greetings & Ceremonial practices of Tsagaan Sar
- A feast mainly made of aaruul, buuz, boortsog, kumis, milk and arkhi
- Games & Fortunes told with shagai
- A magtaal performed by Yesunova Hotgo (a magtaal is like an ode)
- Aaruul making & decorating
- Room for the sharing of any stories, in Wayfarers' Ger tradition
A Zolgokh involves:
- The host and guest extending their arm palms up with a khadag (like a scarf)
- The guest grasps by the elbows of the host and would say something like: "Amar sain baina uu? Sar shinedee saikhan shinelej baina uu" or "Do you live in peace? Are you celebrating the new year in a good way?"
- The host would answer and offer kisses on either cheek.
- New money or vodka may be exchanged.
